A Place I Have Visited Since Childhood During Out-of-Body Experiences

Updated: Mar 24

Structured environment encountered during an out-of-body experience

Since childhood, I have repeatedly visited the same location during out-of-body experiences (OBEs). For many years I had no way to explain it, and I rarely spoke about it. The image above is the closest visual representation I have been able to create of a place I have encountered many times during these states.

Many people who experience out-of-body states and astral travel report encountering structured environments rather than random dream imagery. The environment described here is one such location.

The environment appears as a large circular platform elevated on pillars above a mix of ocean water and rocky land. The entire structure sits beneath a large transparent dome. Around the outer edge of the platform are multiple glass cubicles, each containing a single person. These are not bedrooms or resting spaces. They are more like individual control stations within a structured out-of-body environment.

Inside each glass enclosure, a person sits in front of what looks like a steering-type control knob. The strong impression is that each person is directing or navigating their experience from within that pod.

In the center of the platform there is an open shared area where people can leave their cubicles and stand or interact. In the image, two people are standing there to represent that central space.

Beneath the platform are structures that resemble machinery, pipes, and storage systems, giving the impression that the platform operates on some kind of underlying infrastructure.

One detail I remembered later is that entry and exit into this environment appears to occur from underneath the platform.

The entire structure sits above water and shoreline under an open sky.

Structured Environments in Out-of-Body Experiences

One of the most common questions people ask about out-of-body experiences is whether the environments encountered during OBEs are random dream imagery or structured locations.

Many people who report OBEs describe visiting recognizable places or environments that appear stable and organized rather than dreamlike.

In my own experiences, the location described above has appeared repeatedly over many years with the same basic structure.

Reports from other out-of-body explorers sometimes describe environments that include:

  • elevated platforms or stations

  • individual chambers or pods

  • central interaction areas

  • entry points below the structure

Because of this, some researchers refer to these locations as structured OBE environments or non-physical operating spaces encountered during out-of-body states.

While the architecture varies from person to person, the overall pattern of organized environments experienced outside the body appears in a surprising number of OBE accounts.

A Recurring Pattern in Out-of-Body Experience Reports

What makes this experience particularly interesting is that several elements of this environment match a pattern described by other out-of-body explorers.

Across independent reports, some people describe locations that include:

  • a circular or elevated platform

  • individual chambers or pods

  • a central shared area

  • entry points from below or underneath

When these elements appear together, some researchers describe the environment as a type of projection station or transition hub within non-physical exploration.

In these reports, individuals appear to operate from their own separate spaces while still being aware of others nearby.

The architecture varies from person to person, but the organizational structure is often surprisingly similar.

What Structured Out-of-Body Experiences Suggest About Consciousness

Experiences like this suggest something important about consciousness.

Consciousness is not confined to the physical body.

Out-of-body experiences indicate that awareness operates beyond the body while still maintaining perception and interaction.

Structured environments encountered during OBEs may represent organized areas within non-physical reality where individuals navigate or direct experience.

Are Out-of-Body Experiences Real Places or Dream Imagery?

One of the most common questions people ask about out-of-body experiences is whether the environments encountered during OBEs are simply dream imagery created by the mind, or whether they represent structured locations within a larger field of consciousness.

Dream environments are usually unstable. The scenery changes quickly, objects shift or disappear, and the setting rarely remains consistent over time.

In contrast, many people who report out-of-body experiences describe environments that appear structured and stable. These locations often contain recognizable architecture, organized layouts, and other people who appear to be operating independently within the same environment.

In my own experiences, the location described above has appeared repeatedly over many years with the same basic structure. The platform, the individual glass cubicles, the central shared area, and the underlying infrastructure have remained remarkably consistent across different out-of-body states.

Reports from other explorers have described environments with similar structural patterns, including circular platforms, individual chambers, and shared interaction areas.

Consciousness is capable of perceiving organized environments beyond the physical body.

What Do People See During Out-of-Body Experiences?

One of the most common questions people ask is what people actually see during an out-of-body experience. Many people assume OBEs are similar to dreams, but reports from experienced explorers often describe environments that feel far more structured and stable than typical dream imagery.

Some people report observing their physical surroundings from outside the body. Others describe traveling through unfamiliar landscapes or entering environments that appear organized, with recognizable structures and other individuals present.

In my own experiences, I have repeatedly encountered the same structured location described above. The circular platform, the individual glass cubicles, the central interaction area, and the infrastructure beneath the platform have remained remarkably consistent across multiple out-of-body states.

Experiences like this suggest that out-of-body perception involves encountering environments that feel stable and organized rather than random or dreamlike.
