Out-of-Body Experiences: The Place I Have Visited Since Childhood

Since childhood, I have repeatedly visited the same location during out-of-body experiences (OBEs). For decades, I had no explanation for what I was seeing. I rarely spoke about it because it sounded too unusual.

I now realize that this place appears to function as a place where I review or run scenarios for my waking life before returning to my physical body.

The image above is the closest visual representation I have been able to create of a place I have encountered many times throughout my life.

The Environment

The environment appears as a large circular platform elevated above a combination of ocean water and rocky shoreline. Everything exists beneath a large transparent dome.

Around the outer edge of the platform are individual glass cubicles, each occupied by a single person. These are not bedrooms or sleeping quarters. They are personal workstations.

Inside each cubicle, the individual sits before what resembles a spherical control interface. Rather than physically operating machinery, the impression is that consciousness itself is interacting with the device.

What I believe is happening is that each person is reviewing, adjusting, or experiencing potential scenarios for their waking life while in the out-of-body state.

It feels remarkably similar to running simulations.

Almost like rehearsing possibilities before returning to physical reality.

Beneath the platform were structures resembling machinery, conduits, and supporting systems. They gave the unmistakable impression that the environment operated upon an underlying infrastructure.

Out-of-Body Experience: Exploring Possibilities

One important distinction is that these experiences never felt like I was controlling the future. Instead, it felt more like exploring possible timelines. Sometimes I would witness conversations, events, or situations that later unfolded in waking life. Other times I would experience possibilities that never occurred.

This has led me to wonder whether consciousness explores multiple potential outcomes before we return to the physical experience where free will continues to shape which path unfolds.

Whether this represents probability, planning, learning, or something else entirely, I cannot say with certainty. I can only describe what the experience feels like.

The Shared Area

At the center of the platform is an open gathering space. People occasionally leave their individual stations and interact there before returning to their own cubicles.

There is a quiet sense of purpose throughout the environment.

No one appears rushed.

Everyone seems to understand why they are there.

The Infrastructure Below

Another detail that remained remarkably consistent over the years is what exists beneath the platform.

Underneath are structures resembling machinery, pipes, storage areas, and supporting systems.

The platform appears to operate upon an extensive underlying infrastructure.

I also later remembered that entry into this environment seems to occur from beneath the platform rather than from above.

Running Scenarios for Waking Life

This environment feels functional. My impression is that these individual stations are used to run, review, or explore scenarios connected to waking life. The person inside each glass enclosure appears to be interacting with a field of possibility rather than simply observing a scene.

This is the closest language I have for it: a place where consciousness engages with potential experiences before returning to the body.

This does not feel like controlling the future. It feels more like exploring possibilities. If anything, the experience suggests that free will remains central. Consciousness may review many potential paths, while our choices in waking life determine which possibilities become reality.

Similar Reports from Other Out-of-Body Explorers

After years of keeping these experiences private, I eventually began reading accounts from other experienced out-of-body explorers.

To my surprise, some described environments with remarkably similar characteristics:

• Individual chambers or pods

• Circular or elevated platforms

• Central gathering spaces

• Organized layouts

• Entry or transition points beneath the structure

Although the details differ, many reports describe environments that appear organized rather than random.

Some researchers have referred to these as projection stations, transition areas, or non-physical operational environments.

I cannot verify those interpretations. I can only say that they bear striking similarities to what I have repeatedly experienced.

What These Experiences Suggest About Consciousness

Whether these environments are objective locations, symbolic representations, or something we do not yet have language to describe, they suggest that consciousness may function in ways far beyond our current understanding.

For me, this place has remained one of the most consistent features of my out-of-body experiences for as long as I can remember.

I believe this environment serves a purpose beyond observation. It appears to be a place where consciousness runs through potential waking-life scenarios before returning to the body.

Whether this place is an objective non-physical location, a symbolic interface for consciousness, or something we do not yet have language to describe, I cannot say with certainty. I can only describe what I have experienced.

For as long as I can remember, this place has remained consistent, purposeful, and deeply familiar. If my interpretation is correct, consciousness seems to be engaging with possibility long before we ever experience it as waking life.
